Threat to shut 12 Kent fire stations

In a cost-cutting exercise twelve smaller fire stations across Kent are threatened with closure. In our part of the county, Matfield, Rusthall, Seal and Halling are at risk.

The Fire Brigades Union has pointed out that closing these fire stations will mean longer response time. The move further shows the ‘big society’ for the scam it always was – local retained fire stations shut, leading to centralisation of cover.

The fire stations to be closed are:
Halling
Horton Kirby
St Margaret’s
Sturry
Matfield
Queenborough
Rusthall
Seal
